Breathwork Contraindications & Safety Information

Breathwork can be a powerful practice that may involve strong physical and emotional responses. It is not appropriate for everyone.

If any of the following conditions apply, it is strongly recommended that you consult with a qualified healthcare provider before participating.

Common Contraindications


   •    Cardiovascular conditions
   •    High or abnormal blood pressure
   •    History of aneurysms
   •    Epilepsy or history of seizures
   •    Use of heavy medication
   •    Severe psychiatric conditions (including psychosis or paranoia)
   •    Bipolar disorder
   •    Osteoporosis
   •    Recent surgery or significant injury
   •    Glaucoma or retinal conditions
   •    Pregnancy
   •    Active substance addiction
   •    Any untreated or unmanaged mental health condition

Additional Considerations

Breathwork may involve rapid or connected breathing patterns that can create intense physiological and emotional responses.

It is not advised for individuals with a history of cardiovascular disease (including angina or heart attack), seizure disorders, severe mental illness, or recent major medical procedures without medical clearance.

Pregnant individuals should consult with a healthcare provider before participating.

Individuals with asthma should bring their inhaler and consult both their physician and the facilitator prior to participation.
